WHAT IS MENTAL TRAINING?
Mental training is for the mind what strength and conditioning is for the body. Athletes strengthen their bodies so they can face greater physical challenges and perform at their peak. The same can be said of athletes who train their minds. Similar to strength training, in order to get mentally stronger an athlete needs to push themselves out of their comfort zone. They need to push their boundaries so they can develop laser focus, supreme confidence, and hone in their competitive drive.
The same is true for mental training. MPGA provides a structure to mental training that was constructed by Sport Psychologist and Mental conditioning experts who work with athletes and golfers at all levels. The MPGA mental training curriculum provides daily workouts that will help your athlete build healthy mental habits that last.
Who is the mpga coaching circle for?

This experience will benefit golf teaching professionals (e.g., PGA Class A, TPI Certified, GOLFTEC certified personal coaches), physical trainers, physiotherapists, college coaches, high school coaches, and even highly involved parents who are wanting to enhance their own mental training repertoire.

- Mental Skills is not rocket science, but it’s also not easy: Training your mind is just like training your body. You cannot expect great results with your ideal body type from just a couple weeks in the gym. It requires consistent daily action and showing up to do the work… especially when it gets hard.
- Focus is a Choice: You are always focused on something. Now the question is are you choosing to focus on the things that will help you succeed or not?
- Victory Goes To The Vulnerable: What distinguishes the elite performers from the average Mary Jane or Joe is one’s relationship to fear. Everyone feels fear, but elite performers create habits to lean into their own fear and show up to play their hearts out in spite of it. According to research, leaning into vulnerability is the greatest and most accurate measurement of courage. You will win every time you choose to lean into vulnerability, regardless of the outcome as it is the foundation of building courage in our lives.
- Confidence is an Action: Most athletes believe confidence is a feeling. Therefore, they act how they feel. And when you feel confident, you act confident. However, with mental training, athletes realize that confidence is an action. You can choose to act confidently no matter how you feel. If you want to feel confident, simply act confidently.
- Greatness is a Decision: Most athletes believe you are either born with greatness or you are not. Unfortunately, this view greatly limits potential. Building mental strength leads to resilience and persistence towards the pursuit of goals. This allows athletes to wake up and show up with greatness on their mind ready to put their best effort forward. It is our choice to wake up each day and show up with greatness.

About Dr. Mat Park & MPGA
For the past 20 years, Dr. Mat has trained in psychology and has combined his clinical background with sport and performance psychology. He and his MPGA colleagues will teach you the basics of how the mind operates and how to teach the fundamentals of the mental game of golf.
